About the role

At Elmwood Law, we are committed to delivering justice for individuals affected by financial mis-selling. We are seeking an experienced solicitor with 5–10 years of post-qualification experience to join our motor finance mis-selling team. This role is pivotal in guiding both litigated and non-litigated cases, ensuring our clients receive the representation they deserve.

We’re looking for a candidate who brings more than just technical skill. We’re looking for a candidate who can leverage their experience of running their own litigated cases to support the firm’s wider team in the handling of cases en-masse. This will entail working with cross-functional teams on:

  • Monitoring and challenging counterparty resistance to information requests, complaint handling and recognition of representation.
  • Advising, reviewing and updating the firm’s Damages Based Agreements and engagement documentation in line with changes in legislation and new case law.
  • Providing strategic guidance and legal support if a counterparty breaches any statutory guidelines.
  • Sampling outbound communication and internal processing workflows to ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Horizon scanning for changes in legislation and regulation in relation to financial mis-selling.
  • Developing strategies, workflows, and systems that ensure the firm’s wider team maximises recoverable costs without compromising on results.

The role will also entail the litigation of specific cases with atypical profiles both individually and as part of omnibus actions.

The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in drafting court documentation and have a robust working knowledge of the Civil Procedure Rules as well as evidence gathering, disclosure, drafting statements of truth and interlocutory applications. The ideal candidate will also have managed small teams of fee earners whilst continuing to fee earn themselves and have a track record of meeting and exceeding targets and KPIs.

The role will also involve providing ongoing input on designing, mapping, and implementing case management workflows that remove friction and support smarter, more effective working. The ideal candidate will have a strong interest in the intersection of law and technology.

Above all, we’re looking for someone who’ll maintain a strong sense of ownership, a desire to lead from the front, and a commitment to both the people they work with and the clients they represent.

Your role

  • Provide oversight and support to cross-functional teams handling high-volume cases.
  • Design and implement efficient case management workflows, establishing procedures and precedents to streamline operations.
  • Deliver training sessions to staff, promote best practices and champion regulatory compliance across multiple teams.
  • Handle fully litigated cases, including drafting court documents, managing evidence, and navigating the Civil Procedure Rules.
  • Apply knowledge of pre-action protocols, Conditional Fee Agreements, and Damages Based Agreements to optimise case outcomes.

What we’re looking for

  • A qualified solicitor with a minimum of 5 years PQE.
  • Demonstrated leadership in managing teams and high-volume caseloads.
  • Proficiency in legal drafting, court procedures, and litigation strategies.
  • Strong organisational skills with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and familiarity with legal software tools.
  • A collaborative mindset with a commitment to professional growth and client advocacy.

What we offer

  • A supportive team culture, focused on shared success.
  • A hybrid working model with flexibility built in.
  • Access to market-leading proprietary technology.
  • Opportunities to grow within a forward-thinking legal environment.
